For the three-day weekend, we decided to pack up the car, with lots and lots of camping gear, and drove up to Lake George, located in upstate New York. Seth and I couldn’t believe how much “stuff” we had manage to stuff in our car for our short weekend trip. We camped near one of the many little lakes in the Adirondack region. The kiddies had fun cooking hot dogs on the best electric grill we could find and over the fires, roasting marshmellows and throwing rocks in the lake. I’d looked for ideas on how to keep them entertained on campingfunzone.com and found loads of inspiration. We did a couple of different hikes–one up to a very secluded beautiful lake and another up to a cliff that overlooked five different lakes. The flying bugs were annoying and nasty. Sleeping in a tent with my kids was difficult–I learned that Lucas snores and sucks his thumb really loud. Stella whimpered because she was cold and ended up with me in my sleeping bag, good thing it was a double sleeping bag. Luckily, we had plenty of room to move about but the snoring wasn’t pleasent. Who knew such tiny people could be so disruptive. Next time, I’m definitely going to look into getting a campervan instead. One of my friends made the most of a campervan hire in cairns when she went away with her kids, and she said it was the perfect way to have an authentic experience being at one with nature, while also still being comfortable and safe, so it sounds like the perfect solution. Besides the nighttime chaos, it was a fun trip. And I do think I would one day want one of those little cabin shacks on a lake so I can enjoy the scenery every year.

You guys are awesome. I really couldn’t sleep in a tent with all my boys. No one would get any sleep. So glad you were able to get away for the weekend!

Codye is horrible at staying in touch, but loves to know what’s going on with his boys!
You are adorable. Seriously. So dang cute. I wish we lived by you so we could be friends. (I feel the same way about biking everywhere. Only, I have a bike trailer for the little rascals. Our house is just up too many hills!)

Looks like fun! Camping is such a challenge with kids but totally worth the memories made. Our kids love it and constantly ask when they get to go on another campout.
