My little Luke has recently expressed an interested in the potty. He tells me when he needs to go pee and that he wants his diaper off. Of course I’m taking the opportunity to put him on the toilet, but I’m not pushing potty training right now. Next month he’ll be two and I think that’s when we’ll start getting serious about it. Oh the dread of potty training! Not my favorite thing to do in the life of parenthood. It seriously can be so frustrating. And I hear boys are harder than girls. So any suggestions for potty training little boys? Do I teach him to stand up or first to sit down? I’m going to make sure Seth is involved on this one.

I totally agree with you on the potty training, very difficult. My Ashlyn was hard, but I think because I had her do it to soon, so when Jayden came a long I waited until he was ready, it was so much better and he learned it in one day! I really think it is all with how ready they are and their personality.

First off, I totally love that picture. So adorable! Secondly, potty training is HARD! Connor will do really well one week and then the next week he wants nothing to do with the potty. It is driving me nuts! Good luck. And I have him sitting down, although it might be easier if he got to stand up to do the business.

WOW telling you he needs to go to the potty and he isn’t even two yet! I am very jealous 🙂 My Reed is 2 1/2 and is just starting to show interest. But we are in the same boat as Holly. Great for a week then nothing. Once summer hits and I feel like I have more time I am going to try in earnest to get it done. And we sit down too mostly because my husband is not into the exhibition part of teaching a boy to potty 😉

oh boys are tougher….but you for sure want to start out sitting….they can’t control which one they are doing at first! Also they typically aren’t tall enough to stand at first…and it is a ton cleaner! We went to the dollar store and boy #2 picked out a ton of prizes…he got one for each time he had potty success!

I have no advice. Potty training Kaitlin was a nightmare! She was over 3 when I finally got it done. My sis. in law just potty trained her little boy. She taught him standing up. She bought him a Peter Potty http://www.target.com/gp/detail.html/601-8483407-5459360?ASIN=B000C22J2S&AFID=Froogle&LNM=B000C22J2S|Peter_Potty_Flushable_Toddler_Urinal&ci_src=14110944&ci_sku=B000C22J2S&ref=tgt_adv_XSG10001
It worked great for them.

That is great that Lucas is showing signs early. Boys don’t normally potty train till there 3 if you are lucky! 🙂 That was a huge debate in our house…stand or sit, but since I was with him most the time…I made the decision…sit! Much easier! Good Luck!

That is great that he has an interest. Jump on it. I’d say sit and then later on he can learn to stand when he is tall enough to get it in the toilet on his own.

Well, I am potty training Ethan RIGHT NOW!!! And yes it’s hard, he didn’t do anything till day four, but I’m so glad I stuck it out…as far as the sit or stand thing I read to train sitting down b/c that way incase they go #2 while they are trying to push pee out, it can all go in the potty. And it may be an easier transition to go fro sitting to standing for #1 and stay sitting for #2, anyway this made sense to me…take what you want. Everyone is differnt, but if he is showing signs I say go for it and don’t look back! It is crazy hard and sucks…just see blog 🙂 But it feels so good when they start to get it!! And knowing that he can start pre-school and I don;t have to change diapers or buy diapers anymore!!!
